On going "No Poo"

Hi everyone,
I thought i might share what I found amazingly liberating idea; a new perspective on shampoo. The the word shampoo only dates back to early 60’s.. before then there was no such thing as shampoo, and they still manage to have a long and thick hair. It made me think; Do we actually need it? All the well marketed shampoo you see on TV, Do they actually work like they promise? From the cheap and relatively expensive hair products I’ve tried throughout my life, nothing actually works. The fact that the nature and needs of all hair are different, then would it be possible to generalize them to achieve optimal results?

Few weeks ago i stumbled on something called  "NO POO" as in no shampoo, and tried it right on the next day with no hesitation.

Everyone I’ve spoken about this have stunned and surprised to the fact that I don’t wash, and will not wash 3-5 days with shampoo or anything alike. I use baking soda and vinegar rinse. As odd as it may sound, the ingredients are easily found in your kitchen.

This is why I love this method, despite the preparation it may take few minutes (hey, it’s not bottled shampoo and ready to use). Firstly, it’s great for your hair as relying to the natural sebum we produce that actually helps with hair growth, let alone bacterial and viral infection protection. Secondly, its cheap- takes a little baking soda and vinegar per wash. Thirdly, don’t you feel happy going against the current of beautifully marketed shampoo and above all consumerism and marketing blow up? I don’t know about you but I feel good inside!

I am not saying that im a no consumer at all- realistically speaking. But why not take the firm step one by one?  It does takes patience and realizing what your hair needs once you settle on going “No Poo”. As everyone’s hair and scalp is different may also takes different time to adjust. But if you’re patient enough, im telling you- youre NOT gonna regret it. As someone special once said to me:  "Something good doesn’t come easily”- plenty of truth in that saying isn’t it?

While basic recipe is one tablespoon to one cup of water, I use 3 tablespoons to 1 1/2 cup of water due to my thick hair and so is the vinegar which will last for 3 washing. To add moisture to my hair I added honey to the mix. I won’t sugar coat it but for you who is giving this a thought- bear in mind that transition period is not going to be pretty. After 2-6 weeks your hair will shine like never before without any artificial coating substance and unnecessary perfume! I've only on my 2.5 weeks and im loving it. Again, it does takes patience to know what your hair needs and the adapting period so don’t be discouraged.
